Today and Tomorrow by Jenn

Hello, Jenn here!

Have you seen Wild Whisper's new online class, Wild Weddings that launched May 1st?  Well, I took one look at the promo photo and instantly thought it would make a great layout, soooo that's what I did this week.

I did things a little different from my usual routine this time.  I knew how I wanted the layout to look so I got started with some splatters of colour right in the center of a piece of white cardstock, to build the background.  Next, I cut 1" strips from each of the 12x12 papers in the Forever and Always collection along with some of the cards, then cut each of those strips into 3" lengths so that I would have two of each side of the paper.  I placed the strips of paper side by side across the top and bottom of my cardstock, making sure to spread the colours and patterns around evenly, and mirrored top and bottom.  To complete the look I cut two 1" strips from a piece of grey cardstock and ran them, horizontally across the tops of the strips of paper.

Once I had my layout put together, I looked for the right picture to use.  I found a picture of myself with my kids in Newfoundland.  My daughter's shirt is a pretty peach colour and my son's is green so it worked well with the colours in the papers.  I gave the photo two matte's in peach and green, then added some layers using sections of the cut-apart sheet.  I fussy cut a blue sketchy heart from that same paper, to keep as an embellishment, and fussy cut the words from another section to use as my title.

I really felt like I needed something other than paper on this layout so I pulled out my sewing machine.  BIG FAIL!  My thread kept snapping, and I couldn't get the tension right.  I am not liking my new machine, I need more practice.  When I realized that I wasn't going to get the nice clean row of stitches that I wanted, I removed the string and just ran my paper through it so that the needle could pierce a row of holes that I used to add stitches by hand.  I also added some of the dark grey thread to the layers beside the photo.

To finish the layout I pulled out some wood veneer hearts from my stash and used my Tim Holtz Distress Oxides to colour them peach, blue, and green.  I love how they turned out.  Finally, I sprinkled some exclusive SpiegelMom Scraps sequins on the background to add a little sparkle.  I really like this layout, it was so much fun to make!!!

Be sure to check out Wild Whisper's new online class Wild Weddings, and remember to use my discount code DTJENN for 10% off of your purchases in the shop.  If you'd like to see how I put this layout together, head on over the process video on my channel.  Thanks so much for stopping by, and until next time, Happy Scrapping :)
