Hey Wild Whisper Fans, Katelyn here! I'm back on the blog today sharing my Mixed Media Book Cover featuring the One More Chapter Collection. As soon as I saw this collection, I knew that I wanted to use the collection to cover the front of a book. So for todays project, I've used a variety of the papers from the One More Chapter Collection and the Flair buttons to create my Mixed Media Book Cover. You'll want to grab a glass of your favourite beverage as I will walk you through how to recreate my piece at home.
To start, choose the size of book that you want to cover. Once your book has been chosen, apply a coat of white gesso to the front and back cover of the book.
With the white gesso dry, adhere three chipboard numbers to the top left side of the front of the book. Adhere five chipboard numbers to the bottom right side of the front of the book. With the numbers adhered, apply two coats of black gesso to the front and back cover of the book.
Place a circle stencil on your book front. Apply black texture paste through the stencil with a palette knife. Continue the previous step until you are happy with how many circles you have on your book cover. While the texture paste is drying, apply Fire Ruby and Blue Velvet Art Alchemey Metallique Wax to the numbers. Add as much or as little of each colour as desired.
With the texture paste dry, rub Blue Velvet and Fire Ruby Art Alchemey Metallique Wax to the texture paste circles. With the circle coloured, we'll move on to the edges of the book. Rub Bronze Age and Brushed Iron Art Alchemey Metallique Wax to the edges of the book cover.
With the wax on the edges of the book, rub Black Soot Distress Crayon around the edges of the wax and the numbers. To highlight some of the circles, letters and corners of the book I rubbed Picket Fence Distress Crayon.
Choose two Flair buttons from the One More Chapter Flair package.
From the One More Chapter cut apart paper, fussy cut six pencils, a mechanical pencil and a pen. Cut three of the pencils to the following sizes: 1 1/8", 1 1/4" and 1 1/8". Cut out the date square, the camera square, the book square and the between the page quote. Distress the edges of the squares. Ink the edges of the papers and the fussy cut images using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.
From the book page paper cut a piece that measures 1 1/2" x 3". Fussy cut a book stack out. Distress the edges of the book paper. Ink the edges of the book paper and the fussy cut image using a blending tool with foam and Black Soot Distress Ink.
From the yellow with grey words paper, cut a piece that measures 3 1/4" x 4 1/4". Distress the edges. Ink the edges of the paper using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.
From the Star paper, fussy cut three stars. Ink the edges of the stars using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.
Choose three of the border strips from the bottom of the patterned papers and cut them off. The borders will need to be cut down to the following sizes: 7 7/8", 7 1/2" and 7 1/4". Distress the edges of the border strip. Ink the edges of the border strips using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.
Adhere the 7 7/8" strip 2" from the left and 1/8" from the top of the book cover. Adhere the 7 1/2" strip 2 1/2" from the right and 3/8" from the top of the book cover. Adhere the 7 1/4" strip 1 1/2" from the left and 1/2" from the top of the book cover.
Adhere the camera square 3/8" from the right and 1 1/2" from the bottom of the book cover. Adhere the book paper 3/8" from the right and 1 1/2" from the top of the book cover. Adhere the date square 1 1/4" from the right and 1 1/4" from the top of the book cover.
Adhere the quote to the yellow with grey word paper. Adhere the fussy cut book stack 3/8" from the right and 1 5/8" from the top of the book cover. Adhere the book stack square 3/8" from the left and 1 3/4" from the top of the book cover. Use adhesive and foam squares the adhere the quote 1/4" from the right and 2 1/4" from the top of the book cover.
Use foam square to adhere the cut down pencils to the top right side of the book cover, making sure the longest pencil is in the middle. On the top left side of the quote, adhere the pencil above the quote and foam square the pen just above it. On the bottom right side of the quote adhere the pencil and foam square the mechanical pencil and pencil.
To finish off around the quote, adhere the two flair buttons to the left of the quote. Adhere a star in the top left corner of the quote and two stars in the bottom right corner of the quote.
