150 Facts About Canada Layouts by Alexandria

Hello all! Today Alexandria Goodman is sharing several 8.5" x 11" pages that she did about Canadian facts using the Strong & Free collection. We love this idea and it is a great way to document the cool things about our nation! She has written a great tutorial and included a link to where she found the fact list, so make sure to read everything through. from here we will let Alexandria take it away!
Canada celebrated its 150th birthday last week, and the Strong & Free collection was perfect to document such a milestone. I pulled out the papers from the kit with barely an idea of what I'd do, but I knew it had to be directly related to Canada's birthday, so I flipped through the papers and the cards repeatedly until an idea came to me.
For Canada's 150th birthday, a logo of sorts was created and it was a geometric maple leaf. I dug around on google to find one that I could trace and cut using my silhouette. I sized it to fit an 8.5" x 11" page and cut it out. I wasn't sure if I wanted to use the white geometric piece on a layout, or use the "scrap" piece.
I went with the off cut and the firework paper. I cut it to the size I wanted so the firework was in the position I wanted and adhered it to the back of the white cardstock.
Once it was adhered I couldn't decide if I wanted to add the extra off cuts from the middle portion, or to have the firework completely visible, so I set it aside.
I went digging online for 150 facts about Canada and found a GREAT list here. I copied and pasted them into photoshop, did a bit of editing (made the numbers bold, removed the "learn more here" parts) and spread them across 3 pages with space to add some other pieces from the Strong & Free collection, so I pulled out some of the journal cards.
I went back and added the center off cuts to the maple leaf and I love how it came out. I could have cut the maple leaf from the firework paper, but I don't think it would have had the same effect.
I cut one 4x6 card and added a 3x4 card to the top of the first page of facts. I fussy cut the floral arrangement and the "true north" banner from a 4x6 card and adhered it with foam squares along the bottom of the journal cards. I stamped the date and wrote that it was 150 facts.
The third page is just straight journaling. I debated adding a photo or something, but I wanted to be able to come back to this later and read all the facts if I wanted.
On the final page I cut up the packaging from the kit. You know, that piece that they stick along the front of the paper to give you a preview of the pages and the name of the collection. I trimmed it to size and adhered it along the bottom of the final page. Then I made a cutfile to match the Canada wood veneer and adhered it with foam squares.
Thank you so much to Alexandria for sharing these wonderful pages! To see more of her stunning work, check out her blog and Instagram.
