Take the Scenic Route by Jenn

Hello, Jenn here!  I was really excited this week to pull out my Out & About collection from Wild Whisper.  It's such a fun and colourful collection, perfect for travel photos.  I decided to use the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine's July sketch for this layout, as well.

I chose a black background for this layout because I think it really highlights the colours in the collection.  Because my pictures were already printed, I used two 4x6 photos instead of the sketch's 4 square photos.  These are photos I took of the gorgeous views of the Badlands of Montana so I knew that the 4x3 card from the collection that says 'Take the scenic route' was going to work perfectly as the title and a place for me to add some journalling.

In the sketch there are circles as embellishment which inspired me to choose the orange 12x12 paper with the sketchy circles on it.  I also like how the paper accented the colours in the picture.  I added a small matte of black behind the photos to help them pop, and then matted them on the orange paper.  I also used the orange paper as a border on the top and left side of the layout.  I chose three other patterns from the papers to use as the strips that run from the top and side of the photos.  The beautiful globe paper already had circles on it, so I fussy cut a few of them out, and used them for the embellishment.  The white circles were the perfect size for some of the stamps from the Out & About stamp set so I stamped a car and a little sketchy circle.  To add a little extra texture and interest I added a flair button, a puffy sticker, wood veneer, and some SpiegelMom Scraps exclusive sequins to the cluster of circles.

I decided to add my 4x3 card to the left-hand side of the photos, instead of above them like in the sketch.  I felt more balanced that way.  I used the 'journey' wood veneer at the top of the card, and added some journalling underneath.  I love the simplicity of this layout.  The basic sketch design is a great way to make sure that busy photos like the ones I used stand out and stay the focus of the layout, while also giving you the opportunity to use all of the gorgeous pattern papers from this collection!!!
