Hello, Happy New Year!!! Jenn here with a new layout to start the year off! I am using the supplies I got in the amazing 60% off sale from last year, did you grab any of those goodies for yourself, many of the collections can still be found in the Last Chance section of the shop!? I am pairing them with some scraps from my Wild Whisper stash because January is Baby Got Scraps month, and I am also using the Freaky Fast Formula from this week's Turesday's in the Attic. My goal for this year is to create fun, easy, quick layouts and use up as much of my stash as possible, so lets see how I did!

I started this layout by pulling out scraps in colours that I thought matched well, and also anything that matched my photo theme, which is tobagganing. I had a piece of paper from the Tinbit collection that I cut the image out of. It was mountains. I kept the remaining piece of the paper thinking I would probably use the pattern on the other side, but this plain white paper with the shape of mountains cut out of the bottom really inspired me because it fit the tobagganing theme so well. I used that as my background, and found a scrap of the snowflake paper from Strength of the Season that was large enough to back the mountain-shaped cutout. Not only does it make the cutest background page, but the teal from the snowflake paper also matches the papers in my How To Kill a Kit with Style Kit for this month so I was able to pull some scraps from there as well.

With all of my scraps assembled, I pulled out the pieces that were the right sizes to be cut down into the measurements from the Freaky Fast Formula. This included a piece of paper from the Happy Tails collection, and from the Carefree collection. I used all of these pieces to create a large cluster of layered papers at the top of the page, above the mountains, and that's where I placed my picture. I used some foam tape to pop up a couple of the layers and my photo, to add some dimension. I used a few of the tiny leftovers of the pink and purple papers to add little snowcaps to my mountain, to really get every scrap I could used up!

To finish the layout, I added the title Play, some little sticker embellishments and some sequins from the Ocean of Teal mix, then outlined my layout, each layer, and the mountains with a silver gel pen, and silver glitter paint pen. Finally, I added some splatters of silver and teal shimmery watercolours. Confession: my silver glitter paint pen seems to actually be teal? I'm not sure if this is an accident in packaging, or if the paint pen is just getting old and the silver paint has turned bluish-teal. In any case, I did almost panic, but decided to just roll with it and let it be! Sometimes that's the risk you take when you add things like sketchy lines to your layouts, or use paint or mists for splatters. They don't always work out the way you thought they would. Sometimes they smudge, or you drip somewhere you didn't mean to. Sometimes your hand isn't as steady as you thought and you draw someone unintended. Whatever it might be, there is almost always a way to fix it. If I had chosen not to keep my teal sketchy line, I could have covered it up with some embellishments or washi tape, or I could even have trimmed a small amount off of each side of the page and backed the layout with another piece of paper to create a border around the entire layout. The lesson: there is always a way to fix things, so don't let worry about messing up be the reason for not trying a new technique or supply!!! You may surprise yourself with how much you enjoy experimenting with new things :)
