Jenn's Aquarium Layout with Shaker Windows!

Jenn Gagne is back on the blog today. Similar to Sara's layout, Jenn decided to tackle this tentacle paper! We love how the two layouts are totally unique and creative! Check out Jenn's process in the video below and she will take it form here.
Jenn here again, with something a little different and fun for me. This week I decided to use the awesome octopus 12x12 paper from the Wild Whimsy collection. I originally thought that I would cut out the octopus tentacles to use on a layout, but as I was pulling out pictures and trying to come up with a plan, I remembered that I had punched some circles from the paper around those tentacles and they sparked an idea!
I started by choosing where to position my picture so that it looked like it was being held in the tentacles. I used a craft knife to cut slits along the paper anywhere that the photo needed to be tucked behind a tentacle and then slid the photo into place. I decided it would be fun to turn the holes left over from punching out the circles into bubbles by making the whole layout into a big shaker pocket. I smooshed some blue and teal spray mist onto a piece of white cardstock to use as the back of the shaker pocket. Then the fun began! I used some plastic to cover each hole, then to give the sequins room to to move around in each little hole, I put craft foam over the entire back of the layout. I used a mix of different sequins from my stash and from the exclusive sequins mixes from SpiegelMom Scraps to fill the holes, then carefully placed cardstock over top sealing the sequins in place.
The picture of my kids poking their heads up in a glass bubble in the middle of an aquarium is pretty dark and hard to see because the picture is taken through layers of glass and water, with bright-coloured fish swimming past. Because the picture is harder to see and the shaker bubbles and tentacles make the layout very busy, I chose to leave the embellishment pretty simple and mainly centered around the photo. I fussy cut a mermaid from one of the Wild Whimsy 4x6 cards and the quote from another card. This layout will be placed between pocket pages from our visit to the aquarium at the Mall of America so it doesn't need any journalling or a title.  I finished it with some sea shells cut from another 12x12 paper, and a few sequins. This was a lot of fun to make, and I think it turned out pretty cool!!!  Now I just have to figure out how to keep my kids from constantly wanting to shake it!
As usual, you can see exactly how I made this layout above or on my YouTube channel, I'd love to have you visit. Thanks so much for stopping by, and until next time, Happy Scrapping!
