Nathalie is here today with an amazing layout featuring the No Place Like Home collection. There is a wonderful story behind that photo and we love how the she used the collection to bring out what it means to her. Nathalie will take it away!
Hello!
The beautiful patterns in the “No Place Like Home” collection, as well as in the journal cards inspired this layout. Upon receiving the collection, I quickly dug a picture of my kids and mom standing in front of my childhood home back in Ecuador. Quickly the idea formed in my head, and I set to create a title for this piece.
There were so many choices for the titles (based on the designs in the journal cards), that I played around with some of the designs until I was happy with the one featured in this layout.
In order to bring the patterns and colors in the collection, I chose to cut the title using my Silhouette Cameo on white cardstock.
Before backing the cut, I used a paper piercer to create a stitching guide around the perimeter of the letters. Using embroidery floss that matched the colors in the papers, I spent a few hours adding the stitching you see on the title.
Once the stitching was done; I used one of the journal cards to back the small script words of the cut, while the large words were backed using papers from the collection.
I used some of the journal cards as layers behind the picture, and chose to anchor the picture to the folded corner of the layout. I cut a large square of the black and white house design paper at this corner, so that the image will show behind the folded corner. The other pieces used to create a cluster on the picture come from my stash, as well as the branding strip at the bottom of the papers. The tag hides the personal journal of this picture, but I added some small sentences along the edges of the large words.
The coordinating stamp set was perfect to add some small details to the page. A small fussy cut house, a cork heart, and the No Place Like Home sequin mix complete this small cluster.
I love the final look of this layout. It is a fitting project for the home my grandparents built block by block, and shaped all of my family’s generations. And now that they are not longer with us, I still can look back at this page, and really feel the sense of home it brings to my soul.
I really hope you stop by the Wild Whisper store to pick this collection, and the rest of the ones available there. I look forward to see what you create with the cut files. Enjoy!
