Our March Guest Designer, Jenn, is Sharing a Layout Process Video

We are pleased to welcome our March Guest Designer, Jenn Gagne, with a beautiful new layout using the No Place Like Home collection! We love how she used an over-sized photo (measuring about 8"x11") and the saturation coordinates beautifully with this paper collection. From here we will let Jenn take it away!

When I saw March's No Place Like Home collection, I honestly felt it was custom designed just for me!!!  I couldn't wait to dig in and create with it.  We adopted our two youngest children, and after two and a half years of living with us, their adoption was officially finalized just before Christmas, AMAZING 😊 Since then I've been thinking quite a bit about the idea of home and what makes a home. When I saw the 4x3 card from the No Place Like Home card pack that says "Home is Wherever I'm With You" I remembered that I had this picture, and that for me, it captured the exact moment (just a couple weeks after they first came to live with us) that I knew they were HOME. I won't get too sappy in this post, but please feel free to check out my blog if you'd like to read more about our adoption adventures and my sappy feelings about this photo.
I printed my photo at 8"x12" which I've never done before. I've been inspired after watching a few of my favourite scrappy YouTubers who have used bigger photos recently, and I thought I'd give it a try. The picture has been edited and the green and yellow grass perfectly matches the greens and yellows of this collection. I cut the photo down slightly to double matte it, using the yellow ombre paper, and the dark green damask paper. I used a layer of grey to add a neutral colour, and the blue chevron paper because I thought it would help balance all the green in the grass, especially since the sky is no longer blue in the photo.
I pulled out my Prima water soluble oil pastels and a water brush, and painted a few of the outlined houses from my favourite piece of paper. I stuck to a yellow, green, and blue colour scheme. The Wild Whisper paper was great to paint in and hardly buckled at all from the water. I think the houses bring a pop of bright colour which helps balance the bright white of the 4x3 card. I also used some random stickers from old Jillybean Soup and built up three embellishment clusters. I finished the layout with the super cute wood veneer hearts and some My Mind's Eye enamel dots, and outlined it all with a gray marker. This colour scheme and design is definitely out of my comfort zone, but I had so much fun doing it and I think it came together well.
Thanks so much for taking the time to check it out! Happy Scrapping!
