Good Times & Tan Lines Travel Journal by Katelyn G

Hey Wild Whisper Fans, Katelyn here! I'm excited to be back on the blog today sharing with you my Good Times & Tan Lines Travel Journal which features the brand new Back to Basics Collection as well as the Palm Paradise Collection. The inspiration for my travel journal came from Eileen Hull's Journal Die which then I combined with the Back to Basics Cardstock, the Palm Paradise Paper Pack, the Flair, the new Pineapple Paradise Embossing Powder and the Brush Letters Stamp Set created by Good Times & Tan Lines Travel Journal. You'll want to grab a cup of your favourite tropical beverage as I walk you through how to recreate my project at home.

To start, you'll need to choose patterned papers from the Palm Paradise Paper Pack. With the papers decided, cut both pieces into 6" strips. Adhere one of the 6" patterned papers to one side of the mat board and adhere the other 6" patterned paper to the other side of the mat board. Repeat the previous step on a second piece of mat board, make sure that the paper for the inside cover is upside down. This will make sure that your inside paper is running the right direction. Place one mat board piece on the journal die and run it through your die cutting machine. Repeat the previous step for the other piece of mat board. Ink the edges of the journal using Black Soot Distress Oxide Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Adhere your two album covers together making sure that all the lines line up. Bind the journal using Black wax cord.

Choose two more patterned paper pieces from the Palm Paradise Paper Pack. Cut each patterned paper piece to 8 13/16" x 8 1/4". Round all four corners on each piece of paper. Ink the edges of each paper using Black Soot Distress Oxide Ink and a blending tool with foam. Adhere each patterned paper piece to a journal. Where the binding is on the spine of the journal, slide each journal in.

Choose two Flair buttons from the Palm Paradise Flair.

From the bottom of the Palm Paradise Papers, choose three border strips. Cut the first border strip to 2 3/4". Cut the second border strip to 2 1/4". Cut the third border strip to 2". Ink the edges of each border strip using Black Soot Distress Oxide Ink and a blending tool with foam.

From the floral paper, fussy cut three red flowers, one orange flower and one two bunch flower. Ink the edges of the flowers using Black Soot Distress Oxide Ink and a blending tool with foam.

From the cut apart paper, fussy cut the bird, orange, watermelon and two bunch flower. Ink the edges of the images using Black Soot Distress Oxide Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Apply Emboss It Ink to the Journal word spelled using the Brush Letters Stamp Set and stamp onto the piece of turquoise Back to Basics cardstock. Sprinkle Pineapple Paradise Embossing Powder overtop of the word. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool. Fussy cut the journal word out.

Adhere a scrap piece of patterned paper from the Palm Paradise paper pack to a piece of mat board and place it on the bottom portion of the journal die. Run the die through your diecutting machine. You'll need the label shape it die cuts. Ink the edges of the label using Black Soot Distress Oxide Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Now it's time to decorate the cover of your journal. Adhere the 2 3/4" border strip 7/8" from the bottom of the journal and all the way to the right side of the journal. Foam square the watermelon to the middle of the border strip. Adhere the good times & tan lines to the middle of the watermelon.

Foam square the orange to the middle of the front cover. Use adhesive and foam square to adhere the two bunch flowers with foliage to the bottom right side of the orange. Foam square a red flower in between the red and orange flower.

Use adhesive and foam squares to adhere the two bunch flower to the top left side of the orange. Foam square the orange flower with foliage to the right of the orange flower. Foam square the red flower with foliage to the bottom left of the red flower. Foam square a red flower in between the red and orange two bunch flower.

Adhere the 2 1/4" border strip to the left of the flower bunch on the right hand side of the orange. You will have to lift up a bit of the flowers to slide the border strip in. Adhere the 2" border strip to the left of the flower bunch directly underneath the 2 1/4" border strip. Adhere the other flair button to the left of the foliage from the two flower bunch.

Adhere the bird to the top left hand side of the orange. Foam square the label to the middle of the orange. To finish off the front cover, adhere the journal word overtop of the label.
