Farm Sweet Farm by Jenn

Hi!!!  My layout this week is all about falling in love on the farm.  At my son's kindergarten field trip, I caught the eye of a gorgeous goat, who fell in love (and I was equally in love, of course :) )  Now, some have said it was actually my sun glasses that she wanted, but her and I know the truth, it was love <3

For this 12x12 layout I used the Farmhouse collection, starting with the red barn door paper as my main background.  To add some interest I decided to matte it with the yellow patterned paper, which also helped to calm the red paper a little bit.  I cut the center out of that yellow paper so that I could use some of it to matte the photo as well, and used a brown 4x6 card from the card pack as a layer behind the photo for some contrast.

I pulled out a lot of ephemera to use on this layout, including the green barn doors, that I cut apart to add to the layers behind the photo, along with the black and white diamond pattern.  I cut two pieces of the woodgrain pattern from the sample paper that comes with the pattern papers and used them to ground the embellishment clusters at the top and bottom of the page!  I love to use the packaging to stretch my collection even further.  I layered even more ephemera together in each cluster, using foam squares to add dimension the the top element in each cluster.

This would be a good place to call this layout done if you like the clean and simple look but I really felt like I wanted to do more with those barn doors in the background.  I found three animals in the ephemera pack and decided it would be fun to have them peek out from behind the doors.  I used my craft knife to carefully cut along the lines on three sides of each door I chose, then folded back the flap and glued one animal in each door.  I used the wheat 12x12 paper as a background behind the animals.  Now I have a rooster, a horse, and a cow on my farm.

I still felt like the layout needed some extra textures to balance all of the paper I've used.  I added some burlap ribbon to the bottom of the photo layers, and under the embellishment clusters. I found some hay (from a broom... yep, I cut a few strands off of my broom, sshhh, don't tell my hubby, lol) and some corn husks from the Autumn decorations that we're slowly putting out and tucked little bits beside the photo, into the clusters, and even glued some by the open barn doors.  I finished it off by wrapping some hemp cord around the photo and tied a little bow, and scattered some large woodgrain sequins I had in my stash.  I absolutely love how fun and playful this layout is.
